Lip fillers, along with Botox, are one of the most popular treatments that we offer at Dr Kate Aesthetics in Cockfosters, North London. Lip fillers offer so much more than just adding more volume to the lips. They can be used as an anti-ageing treatment, they can make the skin on the lips look more hydrated and they can add balance to the lips, making them look more symmetrical.

Lip fillers for more volume

There is a sweet spot for how full the lips should look. If you have very thin lips, a little volume can make the lips look more attractive, whereas if you already have voluptuous lips, overfilling them could be seen as less attractive. A study that took place in March 2023 concluded that the participants who had thinner lips were significantly more attractive after a lip filler treatment.

We are all aware of what too much lip filler can look like with terms like ‘duck lips’ and ‘trout pout’ being used to describe overfilled lips. When too much lip filler is placed in the lips, the filler migrates beyond the vermillion border, aka the lip line. Patients who have too much lip filler have a ‘duck’ look when you view their lips from the side. This looks really unnatural and unfortunately this obvious over filling is often what gives lip filler treatment a bad name.

What causes duck lips?

  • Poor quality dermal filler
  • Too much filler
  • A poor injection technique

If your lips have been overfilled and are looking a bit ‘duck like’, we can dissolve the filler and re-treat them so they look natural again!

Natural looking lip fillers

There are lots of people that you wouldn’t know have had lip filler treatment, because they have had a subtle enhancement that looks very natural. At Dr Kate Aesthetics, we treat our patients ethically, to give them natural looking lip filler results, and we will never over inject the lips.

How much lip filler do I need?

We will only ever administer the amount of lip filler that we feel you need and the amount which will complement your face and features. We will discuss your desired outcome with you and after a careful facial assessment be able to advise you on how much we are likely to need. The syringes that we use come in the following amounts:

  • 0.7ml
  • 1ml

To put these amounts into some perspective, imagine that a teaspoon holds approximately 5mls of liquid, so, if you have 1ml of lip filler you will be getting about one fifth of what a teaspoon holds.

If it is your first time having a lip filler treatment, it can make sense to start with a smaller amount, so that you can get a feel for what a little bit more volume will look like. This can help you become comfortable with the treatment process and how your new lips look and feel.

At Dr Kate Aesthetics we will assess your features and advise you of how much filler will suit your face, and we are happy to build up the filler gradually, starting with a smaller amount and letting it settle, so you can be fully in control of the end results.
