At Dr Kate Aesthetics Cockfosters, we offer the SkinPen micro-needling treatment, to support a variety of your skin rejuvenation concerns, from Acne Scarring, Melasma, Fine Lines & Wrinkles, Stretch Marks, Pigmentation and more. Skin Pen is being used as part of combination therapies, offering micro-needling alongside treatments such as dermal fillers, mesotherapy, chemical peels and LED light therapy.

Microneedling helps the skin in a few ways:

  • It stimulates collagen production: Collagen is a protein that gives skin its strength and elasticity. By stimulating collagen production, microneedling can help to improve the appearance of wrinkles, scars, and other skin damage.
  • It increases skin cell turnover: This means that the skin cells are replaced more quickly, which can help to improve the overall appearance of the skin.
  • It improves skin absorption: Microneedling can help to improve the absorption of skincare products, which can make them more effective.

Microneedling is a safe and effective treatment for a variety of skin concerns. However, it is important to note that it is not a permanent solution and you may need to have multiple treatments to see the best results.

The treatment is safe on all Fitzpatrick skin types and is effective on all body parts, including the face, neck, and décolletage.
This treatment can be done any time of year.

Who should NOT have micro-needling? Avoid if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Have any of the following: active skin cancer in the treatment area, open wounds, sores or irritated skin in the treatment area, an allergy to stainless steel or anaesthetics, bleeding disorder, tendency to form keloid scars, immunosuppression, poor wound healing response
  • Have taken oral retinoids/isotretinoin (e.g. Roaccutante) in the past 6 months.

Microneedling is good for people with a variety of skin concerns, including:

  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Stretch marks
  • Sun damage
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Pore size

It is important to note that microneedling is not a miracle cure and it will not work for everyone. The best way to see if microneedling is right for you is to consult with a qualified skin care professional.

Results continue to work up to 4-6 months, producing 400% more Collagen in a single treatment.

A course of 3 treatments is recommended for optimal results. It’s a natural, organic treatment, which is non-invasive, with zero downtime. The results leave your skin looking smoother, youthful, and tighter, softening the fine lines, and wrinkles.

Improvement is gradual and results continue to work up to 4 to 6 months post treatment.

A course of 3 to 6 treatments done once every 4 to 6 weeks is recommended and then a maintenance treatment every 3 to 6 months.

Yes, microneedling can help with acne scars, especially depressed scars (such as ice-pick scars and boxcar scars).

It works by creating tiny punctures in the skin, which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin. This can help to fill in the scars and improve the overall texture of the skin.

An award-winning micro-needling device, SkinPen is the safest device on the market, globally, with zero chance of any cross-contamination. SkinPen Precision is the world’s first FDA Cleared, Class IIa medical grade, CECertification, and Globally ISO certified, and BSI accredited.

A topical numbing cream is applied before the treatment which makes the treatment comfortable and pain-free.

The treatment itself takes 30 minutes to complete, plus another 30 minutes to prep and cleanse the skin before and after. The client will feel a mild sunburn feeling post-treatment and clients are sent home with a post-treatment Rescue Serum to apply 1-4 days afterwards.

It is normally a quick 48-hour recovery.

Post-procedure the skin is like mild to moderate sunburn.

  • 1 week prior to treatment minimise sun exposure.
  • To reduced the risk of bruising:
  • 1 week prior to treatment discontinue aspirin (unless this is prescribed for you by a doctor), naproxen, omega 3 fatty acids (fish oil), ginseng, gingko, tumeric/curcumin, St John’s Wort
  • 3 days prior to treatment avoid ibuprofen
Note: if you need to take medications for medical reasons, do not discontinue without discussing with your prescribing healthcare provider
  • Day of treatment: if you are prone to cold sores, take your medications (e.g acyclovir)

Post treatment, the skin will be reddened, possibly a little puffy and you may be aware of a little tenderness. You will also experience skin tightness and the skin may also flake in the first few days. Do not pick at any flaking skin it should be left to shed naturally.
